Hyper-V (or hypervisor) is a no-cost addition to Windows Server 2008 that allows you to optimize a single server so that it is able to do the work of multiple server computers, virtually. Linux-based hyper-visor. The Industry Standard reports, “XenServer 5.5 claims new features to simplify virtualization management and integration with other enterprise systems. Features like consolidated backup, enhanced conversion and search tools, Active Directory integration and expanded guest support for most versions of Windows and Linux operating systems.”
VirtualBox is an open-source, community effort backed by Sun Microsystems. VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and OpenSolaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems
VMWare is the industry leader in virtualization technology. ESXi is the free version of their product.
