Support, product information, and tips for Norton donations

TechSoup, together with Symantec, offers a variety of Norton security products for your organization's needs. The following Norton security products are the three most popular products available for donation:

For those who have requested a Norton donation recently, here are some tips on how to get started with your product and links to support from Symantec. In this page you will also find links to security resources on TechSoup. If you have feedback about this page take a brief moment to complete our survey.

Downloading Norton Products

After requesting your donation from TechSoup, you will receive a fulfillment email from TechSoup with the following information:

Sender and email: TechSoup Fulfillment [fulfillment@techsoup.org]

Subject: Your Symantec Desktop Product Request Through TechSoup

In that email, you will see the name of the donated product you requested on the first line in the email, such as "Norton Antivirus 2011". Look for the URL for that specific product further down in the email, as well as product license keys that you will need to complete your installation.

If you have misplaced this email, search your inbox folders for the email with the above sender and subject, or contact client services for further assistance.

Installing Norton Products

Note: You may use the same file on all the computers on which you plan to use the product. For example, you can copy the downloaded file on a portable drive, and copy it on the other computers. In other words, you do not need to re-download the product on every computer on which you plan to install the program.

Once you have completed your product download, you may proceed to installing it by running the program and following the step-by-step instructions. Here are some detailed instructions from Symantec on how to install each of these products:

Follow the on-screen instructions, and at the end you will be prompted to enter your license key. The following is an example from the Norton AntiVirus 2011 product:

Product Upgrades and Renewals

Most security software has two components, the scanning and detection engine, and the virus definitions and subscription. There are three ways to upgrade Norton security products:

  • Direct product upgrade: This would upgrade both the scanning engine and virus definitions at the same time. e.g. Replacing Norton AntiVirus 2010 with Norton AntiVirus 2011 would update both components. This would count towards your annual requests limits for products and licenses
  • Subscriptions renewal: You can renew only the subscription portion of your product, which would enable you to stay protected for a prolonged period of time. This request does not count towards the regular annual Symantec Desktop donation limits, but each organization is only limited to 100 licenses each for two products renewals (up to 200 licenses in total).
  • Symantec Special Donation: Symantec makes a limited amount of products that are of a previous version available as a special donation. These requests are also independent of the regular Symantec Desktop donation program. Depending on the version already installed you may be upgrading to a new version, or replacing an existing installation of the same version.
